Thai Temple in Chalong

Wat Thepnimit (เธงเธฑเธ”เน€เธ—เธžเธ™เธดเธกเธดเธ•เธฃ) is a local Buddhist temple located in the Wichit subdistrict of Phuket, near the Wichit Subdistrict Office and not far from Phuket Town. The temple features a golden chedi housing sacred relics, a white pagoda, a meditating Buddha image known as Phra Than Jai, and a bell tower decorated with lotus motifs. The grounds are peaceful and mostly serve the local community.

Wat Thepnimit in Chalong, Phuket

The temple was founded in 1937 by local villagers on land previously used as a rubber plantation. The ordination hall was built in 1978, followed by a sermon hall in 1973. There are ten monk residences on the grounds, along with Sukhothai-style Buddha images. In 1966, the temple received official boundary status, allowing full ordination ceremonies.

It has since been a centre for Buddhist education, offering Pali studies for monks and novices. Though not a tourist attraction, Wat Thepnimit plays a key role in the spiritual and cultural life of the surrounding community.
