Fitness Camp in Soi Ta iad, Chalong
T&Y Muay Thai is a Thai-owned boxing camp on Soi Ta iad, Phuket’s famous fitness street in Chalong. The camp was founded in September 2016 by Opas Saimai, a former professional boxer who fought under the name “Singhsamut” for over 20 years and competed in more than 400 bouts. After retiring from the ring, he set up T&Y to pass on his experience to the next generation of fighters and to anyone interested in learning the sport.
The camp offers training in Muay Thai, Muay Boran (ancient Thai boxing), MMA, and international boxing. Courses are available for all levels. Complete beginners can start with the basics on heavy bags and pads. More experienced fighters can work on advanced techniques, sparring and competition preparation. Training is personalised, and the coaches adjust the intensity and focus based on each student’s ability and goals.
In 2018, T&Y expanded with a second branch called T&Y Trainer Supply & Service. This arm of the business focuses on training and certifying Muay Thai instructors, both Thai and international. The idea is to produce qualified trainers who can teach the sport properly anywhere in the world.
T&Y also runs its own fight promotion called Superstar Fight Phuket. These events feature fighters from T&Y and other camps on Soi Ta iad, competing in three-round Muay Thai bouts. The events are held regularly and give students a real competitive outlet without having to travel to Bangkok stadiums.
The location is right in the middle of Soi Ta iad, surrounded by other gyms, healthy cafes and recovery spots. If you are staying in the area for a training holiday, everything you need is within walking distance. The camp is smaller and more personal than the big international gyms nearby like Tiger Muay Thai. That is part of the appeal. You get more one-on-one attention from trainers who have genuine fight experience.
I have driven past T&Y many times over the years and it is one of the camps that keeps a lower profile compared to the bigger names on the street. If you want authentic Thai-style training from a real former fighter without the large group class atmosphere, T&Y is worth checking out.
