A lifestyle village near Bangtao Beach

Blue Tree Phuket is a large open-air community mall in Cherngtalay, on the road to Bangtao Beach. The complex covers 56 acres and includes shops, restaurants, cafes, a kids’ adventure park, padel tennis courts, a skate park, a forest park with jogging trails, and even a Phuket Immigration satellite office. It is open daily from 6 am to 11 pm.

Blue Tree originally opened in 2019 as a water park with a 17,000 sqm lagoon, water slides and a zipline. The lagoon closed permanently on 1 August 2024, and the complex was rebranded as a lifestyle and community hub. The colourful Sino-Portuguese style buildings are still there, and so are many of the shops and restaurants that were part of the original project. I visited several times when the water park was still running and always enjoyed the place. It had a great atmosphere.

What’s at Blue Tree Phuket Now?

Blue Tree today is more of a community space than a tourist attraction. You can walk around the shopping village, grab a coffee, eat at one of the restaurants, or let the kids burn some energy at Adventure Village. It is a relaxed place to spend a couple of hours, especially if you are staying in the Bangtao or Cherngtalay area.

Shopping Village

The shopping village at the front of the complex is designed in a Sino-Portuguese style with covered arches and colourful facades. It has a mix of fashion boutiques, beachwear shops, home decor, wellness services, and artisan craft stores. There are also practical services like a car rental office, a language school, and a document copying shop.

Restaurants and Cafes

Several dining spots are spread around the complex. You can find Thai food, Italian, French, healthy bowls, bakeries with fresh sourdough, and coffee shops. The range is better than what you would expect from a place that started as a water park. Most restaurants are open from around 8 am to 10 pm.

Adventure Village

Adventure Village is an indoor entertainment centre with trampolines, a zipline, a donut slide, bumper cars, a kids’ maze, net climbing, and a pirate ship playground. It is suitable for children and adults. There is also a Lego zone for younger kids and a party room for birthdays. It is the main reason families come to Blue Tree now.

Forest Park

Behind the main complex is Forest Park, an outdoor area with 5 km of jogging and biking trails, fitness stations, outdoor gyms, and a pump track. It is free to use and popular with local residents for morning runs and evening walks. The park is open from 6 am to 10 pm.

Padel Phuket

Padel Phuket operates six courts at Blue Tree, four indoor and two outdoor, all built to international standards. Coaching is available for all levels, and you can rent rackets and equipment on site. Padel has become very popular in Phuket, and this is one of the biggest facilities in Thailand.

Skate Park

Blue Tree has Phuket’s first professionally designed skate park, built in 2021. It has ramps, rails, ledges, and obstacles for all skill levels. The park is open to skateboarders, longboarders, surf skaters, and inline skaters. Helmets are required for riders under 11. The skate park is open from 6 am to 10 pm.

Phuket Immigration Office

Blue Tree also hosts a Phuket Immigration satellite office, which is convenient if you need to extend a visa and want to avoid the queues at the main office in Phuket Town.

The Former Blue Tree Water Park

Blue Tree Phuket Water Park

When Blue Tree opened in 2019, the main attraction was a huge lagoon surrounded by water slides, a zipline, a rock climbing wall, and a Ninja Warrior course. The most popular feature was the quadruple ‘slip n fly’ slides, a set of four ramps that launched people into the air before a big splash landing in the lagoon.

The water park struggled after the pandemic, and when Andamanda Water Park opened in Kathu with a larger selection of slides, Blue Tree could not compete. Visitor numbers dropped, and the lagoon closed permanently on 1 August 2024. About 70% of the staff were let go.

The lagoon area still sits empty. Blue Tree announced plans to pivot towards a wellness concept, but so far nothing has been built in that space.
