Sugar Marina POP is about 500 metres inland from Kata Beach, along the main road in central Kata. It’s a 10-minute walk to the sand, flat and easy. Restaurants, cafes, and massage shops are right outside the hotel. Kata Night Market is only two minutes away on foot, which is great for evening street food.
A 7-Eleven is within walking distance. The hotel is 27 km from Phuket Airport, about 45 minutes by taxi depending on traffic.
The Rooms
209 rooms across 12 different configurations, which is unusual for a hotel this size. Rooms range from 30 to 69 sqm. The design is retro pop culture, bright colours and fun graphics in every room. Not your typical Thai hotel look.
The Family Cosy Room fits 2 adults and 2 children. The Family Two Bedroom has more space. Some rooms come with bunk beds that have slides built into them, and kids absolutely love those. Most rooms have balconies with pool views. Everything is new, everything works, nothing looks tired.
The Pools
One central pool with a waterslide, plus a separate kids’ pool with splash park areas and jacuzzis. The pool area is the heart of the hotel, where everyone ends up during the day. The pool bar hands out complimentary drinks around 4 pm, which is a nice surprise.
Pool closes at 8 pm. It’s not a huge pool complex like Kata Palm down the road, but for a boutique hotel it’s well done.

One restaurant and a cafe on site. Being new, the food situation is still finding its feet. For dinner, you’re better off walking outside anyway. Kata has dozens of Thai restaurants, seafood places, and street food stalls within a few minutes. The night market is practically next door.

Couples who like design hotels will appreciate it too. It’s not the place for a quiet, traditional Thai holiday. The colours are loud, the atmosphere is lively, and that’s the whole point. If you want calm, look at Kata Palm or Chanalai Garden instead.
