Thepkasattri Road

A Walking Guide to Thepkasattri Road

Thepkasattri Road runs the entire length of Phuket island, from Phuket Town to the Sarasin Bridge in the north. But in the Old Town section, this busy street forms the eastern edge of the historic district.

It’s where Thalang Road and Dibuk Road meet, creating the main intersection for the famous Sunday Walking Street Market. We’ve walked this stretch many times over the years. It’s not as photogenic as Thalang Road or Soi Romanee, but it has some of the best local food spots in town, including two Michelin-recognised restaurants.

Roti Taew Nam

Roti Thaew Nam in Phuket Town

Roti Taew Nam has been serving breakfast on Thepkasattri Road since 1950. This tiny roti shop earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and draws queues every morning. The roti is cooked on a charcoal-fired griddle right at the front of the shop. You can feel the heat from the tables nearby. Order the plain roti with fried egg and pair it with Massaman chicken or beef curry. Prices start at 20 Baht for plain roti. They close at noon and often sell out by 11 am. Cash only.

This Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant opened around 2010 and quickly became a favourite for authentic Phuket cuisine. The interior is filled with vintage TVs, old radios, and antique clocks. Try the Moo Hong (braised pork belly) or the crab curry with rice vermicelli. The building itself is a 19th-century Sino-Portuguese shophouse. Perfect for dinner before the Sunday market.

CUB House

CUB House is a Honda motorcycle-themed cafe at the junction of Thepkasattri Road and Thalang Road. It combines a specialised Honda motorbike showroom with a coffee shop. The interior features motorcycle decor and displays. The cafe serves decent coffee, ginger lemon drinks, and light food like crostini and cheesecake. It’s an unusual concept that works surprisingly well. The corner location makes it easy to spot when walking between Old Town streets. Staff are friendly. Popular with both motorbike fans and regular cafe visitors.
