A local food court with a Phuket heritage style
Punte Phuket (ศูนย์อาหารปุ๊นเต่ภูเก็ต) is a new and beautiful food court serving local street food, hidden in the old streets of Phuket town, tucked in a dead-end street off Yaowarat Road. The place is charming and spacious, with a beautiful old Phuket design and serves a large choice of local Thai food, including some Phuket specialities. The prices are reasonable but higher than in local shops but the food is good, making Punte a convenient spot to take a break during your exploration of Old Phuket Town.
Food courts are common things in Asia, but it is simple and fun if you are not familiar with this concept yet. The place is divided in two: the sitting area is in the middle, surrounded by little stalls, each specializing in a dish and its variations. You walk around and look at the displays or food photos until one of the dishes triggers your appetite. Order and pay, pick any table and wait for your plate to be brought to you. In most food courts, you would have to wait for your dish to be cooked before choosing a table, but at Punte, the staff is very nice and bring it to you.
We had good Hokkien noodles and a few simple dim sum sets, and it was perfect for a break during our photo shooting day.
