Phuket’s Historic Post Office Museum
The Phuket Philatelic Museum, also known as the Phuket Post Office Museum, is a modest building located in a historic heritage building on Montri Road in Phuket Old Town.
Building History

The once white, one-storey structure was originally constructed in 1930 and once served as the residence of Phra Anurak Yotha, the former governor of Phuket province. After its use as a residence, the building served government postal and telegraph operations before being converted into the Phuket Philatelic Museum in 1994. Efforts to demolish the building in 1981 were denied, ensuring its preservation as a heritage treasure.
Architecture

The building showcases distinctive Sino-Portuguese and West Coast architectural styles typical of Phuket’s colonial period. It features fluted pillars, oak windows, vintage ceilings, and a hip roof adorned with Chinese tiles. The structure was recently painted in a canary-yellow colour.
Museum Collections and Exhibits

The museum is divided into three areas and displays Thai stamps from 1951 onwards, showcasing the country’s postal history. Historic communication devices, including telegraph machines and vintage telephone equipment. Antique office appliances and original postal service equipment. A vintage post office counter, allowing visitors to see how the postal service operated. An extensive philatelic library offering resources for stamp collectors and researchers.
