Map of Nai Harn Beach

This map of Nai Harn Beach shows the main landmarks, restaurants and points of interest around one of the most popular beaches in southern Phuket. Nai Harn is a relatively small bay surrounded by green hills, with a large lake behind the beach and a Buddhist monastery (Nai Harn Temple) sitting between the two. The area has stayed low-rise and quiet compared to the West Coast tourist beaches, which is a big part of its appeal. The map below covers the main areas around the bay.

Nai Harn Beach and Beachfront

The beach itself is about 700 metres long with coarse golden sand and clear water. During high season, the southern end fills up with sun loungers and umbrella rentals, while the northern end stays quieter. A few food vendors and small restaurants operate along the tree line behind the beach. The water at Nai Harn is generally calm between November and April, making it one of the best swimming beaches in Phuket during those months. During the monsoon season, the waves pick up and red flags are common, so check conditions before swimming.

Nai Harn Lake and the Temple

Behind the beach sits Nai Harn Lake, a large freshwater lagoon surrounded by trees. The lake is a peaceful spot and locals use the surrounding paths for jogging and walking. Nai Harn Temple (Wat Nai Harn) sits on the strip of land between the lake and the beach. The monastery is one of the reasons the beachfront was never developed with large resorts. It is an active temple and visitors are welcome to walk through the grounds respectfully.

Nai Harn Town

The small town area sits along the road leading to the beach, centred around the junction near Nai Harn Lake. This is where you will find most of the restaurants, cafes, convenience stores and a few small shops. The range has grown in recent years, with several good international restaurants alongside the Thai eateries. Nai Harn has a strong resident community, so the restaurants here cater to people who eat out regularly, not just passing tourists.

The Headlands

Nai Harn sits between two headlands that offer some of the best viewpoints in southern Phuket. To the south, the road climbs towards Promthep Cape and Windmill Viewpoint, both worth a stop for sunset. To the north, a walking trail leads over the headland to Ao Sane Beach, a small rocky bay popular for snorkelling. The viewpoint at the top of the northern headland is an easy walk from the beach car park and looks back over the entire bay.

Getting Around Nai Harn

Nai Harn is compact. The beach, lake, temple and town centre are all within a 10-minute walk of each other. For trips further afield, Rawai is about 10 minutes east by road, and Kata Beach is roughly 20 minutes north. There is no public transport to Nai Harn, so most visitors get around by scooter, car or taxi app.

I arrived in Phuket in 1994 and have never left. After travelling through 40+ countries and working with Club Med and Expedia, where I created the Hotels.com Go Guides international travel guide with my team, I launched Phuket 101 in 2011 to share what I've explored, discovered and learned. Everything here comes from personal experience, with my own photography and videos from across Thailand.View Author posts
