Juicy Lucy Burger & Bar is an American-style burger restaurant on Yaowarat Road in Old Phuket Town, specialising in stuffed burgers and smashburgers made with Australian beef. The venue now occupies two adjacent Sino-Portuguese shophouses at 87 Yaowarat Road, just north of the Suriyadej Traffic Circle in Talat Yai.

Signature Burgers

The namesake Juicy Lucy burger features cheese stuffed inside the patty rather than on top, creating a molten centre when cooked. This Minneapolis-style burger earned approval from visitors who’d tried the original versions at Matt’s Bar and 5-8 Club back in Minnesota. The restaurant also serves smashburgers, fish burgers with tartar sauce, lamb burgers, and falafel burgers with coleslaw.

Australian grass-fed Black Angus beef forms the base for most burgers. Reviewers consistently praised the meat quality, with one describing the patties as the best encountered in 35 years of travel. The coleslaw received particular attention for its black pepper seasoning. The burgers follow a classic style with thin, smashed patties and soft buns, with portions that draw comparisons to quality fast-food execution.

Interior and Décor

The restaurant’s interior blends old and new design elements across its two connected shophouses. Exposed brick shows through cracked concrete on rough walls throughout the space. Rock and music memorabilia cover the walls, creating a casual atmosphere. The venue features air conditioning inside, with limited outdoor seating available.

Neon signs, including a prominent Coca-Cola logo, provide lighting alongside pendant fixtures and vintage-style lamps. A bicycle mounted on the wall adds to the eclectic décor, whilst mismatched furniture includes both standard chairs and distressed upholstered seating. The polished concrete floors and exposed ceiling beams maintain the industrial aesthetic.

Live Music Atmosphere

One shophouse functions as a dedicated performance space with a permanent stage setup featuring professional sound equipment and coloured lighting. Talented bands perform live music during evening service, particularly on weekends. The performances create a lively atmosphere that distinguishes the venue from other Old Town restaurants.

This live music element has become increasingly significant following the permanent closure of Rockin’ Angels Cafe, which operated at 55 Yaowarat Road for over two decades. Rockin’ Angels closed due to Old Town rent increases, leaving Juicy Lucy as one of the few remaining venues on Yaowarat Road offering regular live music performances.
