About Patong Beach
Patong Beach is Phuket’s main tourist beach, stretching 3 kilometres along the west coast. It is the most developed beach on the island, with a long strip of sand backed by a dense grid of hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops.
The beach is wide enough to absorb large crowds, and there is always space to find a sunbed or lay a towel. The water is warm and calm during the high season. When the southwest monsoon arrives around May, the waves pick up and red flags mark the areas where swimming is not safe.
Behind the beach, the streets are busy day and night. Bangla Road is the centre of Patong’s nightlife, and the side streets around it are full of restaurants serving everything from Thai street food to Italian and Indian. Jungceylon Mall is a short walk from the beach and has air-conditioned shopping when you need a break from the heat.
