THYME Cafe & Brunch: Michelin Bib Gourmand in Phuket Old Town
THYME Cafe & Brunch is a halal Northern Thai restaurant in Phuket Old Town, about 200 metres from the Chartered Bank Building and not far from the On On Hotel. It has Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition (2024 and 2025) and is linked to Sanae, a restaurant that started in Chiang Mai. The space is a dual concept: Thyme handles café service and brunch, Sanae focuses on traditional Thai dishes. Fully halal certified, no alcohol.

The interior mixes modern, vintage, and mid-century design. It looks more formal than it feels. Despite the polished decor, the atmosphere is relaxed and works for everyday meals, not just special occasions.

What to Order
The menu focuses heavily on beef, reflecting Sanae’s specialisation.
**Beef Fat Fried Rice** is the signature dish: jasmine rice cooked in halal wagyu beef fat, topped with seared steak and cured egg yolk. Smoky and well-seasoned. This is the dish that got the Michelin attention.
Other highlights:
– **Khao Soi** – Northern Thai curry with crispy and soft noodles
– **Braised Marrow Beef Balls**
– **Spicy Beef Rib Soup** – served in a large hot pot with substantial rib portions

Southern Thai dishes include Sea Bass in Sour Curry, Massaman Chicken Curry with Roti, and Tom Kha Gai. For drinks, the Southern Thai tea comes topped with coconut ice cream and a small mortar for pounding peanuts. They also serve Karikee Coffee, an Arabica variety.

Michelin Bib Gourmand means good food at reasonable prices. Expect to pay more than a basic local restaurant but less than fine dining.
