Mee Jirayuwat – Hokkien Noodle Restaurant in Phuket Town
Mee Jirayuwat is a well-known local noodle restaurant on Phang Nga Road in Phuket Town, near the old Pearl Cinema. The restaurant has built its reputation on one dish: Hokkien Mee Shake, a seafood noodle soup with a broth made from prawn shells and pork bones. It is a lunchtime-only place, popular with locals and visiting tourists alike.
What to Order
The signature dish is the Hokkien noodle soup. The broth has a natural sweetness from the prawn shells and is lighter than it looks. Each bowl comes with prawns, pork, wontons, bean sprouts and spinach, topped with fried shallots. You choose your noodle type: Hokkien Mee (thick, round yellow noodles) or Ba Mee (thin egg noodles). You can also ask for it dry, with the soup served on the side, which locals call “Hang”.
Beyond the noodles, Mee Jirayuwat also serves grilled pork satay, Poh Pia (Phuket-style fresh spring rolls with grated turnip and sweet sauce) and O-Eaw, a local Phuket shaved ice dessert. The satay is grilled fresh and makes a good starter while you wait for your noodles.
Good to Know
Each bowl is prepared to order behind the open kitchen, so expect a short wait during busy periods. The restaurant received hygiene certifications from the Thai Ministry of Public Health. Cash only.
