A Quiet Beach for Walks, Not Swimming
Heeowhat Beach is a wide sandy stretch on the east coast of Phuket, near Cape Panwa. It’s one of those beaches we often drive past without stopping. The tall casuarina trees along the shore look inviting, but the water here is very shallow. At low tide, you can walk out 50 metres and still be ankle-deep. It’s not a swimming beach, but it has a certain calm that’s hard to find elsewhere on the island.
What to Expect

The beach belongs mostly to the Pullman Phuket Panwa Beach Resort, though, like all beaches in Thailand, the sand itself is public. The resort keeps the area clean and quiet. There’s no crowd here, no vendors, no jet skis. Just trees, sand, and the occasional guest from the hotel.
We’ve walked this beach many times over the years. The sand is firm and good for long walks, especially in the early morning. You’ll see local fishermen sometimes, checking their nets near the rocks at either end. The view across to Chalong Bay is nice, though not spectacular.
One thing to know: the beach faces east. This means mornings are bright and sunny, but by mid-afternoon, the trees cast long shadows across the sand. Good for shade, not ideal for sunbathing.
Who Is This Beach For?

This beach works for people who want quiet. Couples staying at the Pullman will enjoy morning walks. Families with small children can let kids splash in the shallow water safely. But if you want to swim properly, try nearby Ao Yon Beach instead, it’s just a few minutes north and has deeper water.
How to Get There
Heeowhat Beach is about 12 km from Phuket Town, off the main road to Cape Panwa. There’s no public parking lot, so most visitors come through the Pullman resort. If you’re not staying there, the beach is easier to appreciate as part of a drive around the cape rather than a destination on its own.
The beaches on Cape Panwa are: Panwa Beach (Kao Khad), Ao Yon Beach, Cape Panwa Beach, Makham Beach and Heeowhat Beach
