A Sports Bar and Party Bar on Bangla Road

BarFunk Phuket is a bar, sports bar and party venue right in the centre of Bangla Road in Patong Beach. It started over 20 years ago as a tiny 10 sqm bar and has since grown into three locations along the same street. The current main venue is large and open, with Renaissance-style decor, high ceilings, chandeliers and marble pillars.

During the day, BarFunk works as a sports bar. It opens at 10 am and screens live football, rugby, UFC, cricket, AFL, NBA and Formula 1 on large HD screens with surround sound. You can grab a cold beer, order food and watch whatever match is on. If your sport is not on screen, the staff can usually switch a TV for you.

At night, the place transforms. DJs play house, techno and EDM while aerial performers, dancers and live acts take over. The shows usually start around 9 pm and run until closing. Entry is free, and the bar stays open until 4 am. The drink menu covers cocktails, beers, spirits, wine and shisha. They also serve food, including burgers and bar snacks.

BarFunk is run by the same team behind Armania, the upscale nightclub just a few doors down on the same street. Many people start the evening at BarFunk and move to Armania later for a more clubby experience.

I arrived in Phuket in 1994 and have never left. After travelling through 40+ countries and working with Club Med and Expedia, where I created the Hotels.com Go Guides international travel guide with my team, I launched Phuket 101 in 2011 to share what I've explored, discovered and learned. Everything here comes from personal experience, with my own photography and videos from across Thailand.View Author posts
