A Hidden Hilltop Cafe with Panoramic Views

View Cafe at Phuket is a hilltop cafe perched high above Bang Wad Reservoir in Kathu. The panoramic view stretches across Phuket Town to the east coast, Chalong Bay, and the islands beyond. On a clear day, the scenery alone is worth the drive up. The place also has a few rooms if you want to stay overnight. I often run at the lake below, and this is one of the best viewpoints I know in Kathu and Chalong areas.

Location

View Cafe sits on a narrow road that winds up the hills above Bang Wad Reservoir. It is not easy to find, and that is part of what makes it special. There are no crowds and no tourist buses. Most visitors are locals or people who stumbled upon it by chance. The road up is steep and winding, so a car or scooter is the only way to get there.

Atmosphere

The cafe has several seating areas spread over different levels. There is a large air-conditioned indoor room with wooden floors and chandeliers, a semi-outdoor terrace with rattan chairs under a glass roof, and smaller balconies tucked between old trees. The outdoor spots are the ones to go for. Some tables feel almost suspended above the jungle, with nothing between you and the panorama.

The building has a quirky mix of styles. One section has blue shutters and white walls that look almost Mediterranean. Another has an exposed brick wall covered in pink bougainvillaea with string lights. It all feels a bit homemade, but that adds to the charm.

About the Food

View Cafe at Phuket serves Thai food and a selection of coffee and drinks. The menu is simple and focuses on local dishes. This is more of a place to sit, relax, and enjoy the view with a coffee or a cold drink than a dining destination.
