Roti Chaofa

Great Local Breakfast in Phuket Town

Roti Chaofa is a halal restaurant on East Chaofah Road in Phuket Town thatโ€™s been serving breakfast since the 1980s. The restaurant has long been famous for its handmade rotis and Thai-Muslim curries at budget-friendly prices. This small local place earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, which recognises good food at great value. We finally tried it, and the title is totally justified: Roti Chaofa is now one of our new favourites.

What Makes Roti Chaofa Special

The main draw is, of course, their crispy roti bread, which they make fresh by stretching dough thin and cooking it on a hot grill until golden. They serve it shredded with various curries, especially the goat curry thatโ€™s become their signature dish. The goat meat is tender and falls apart easily, cooked in a rich curry sauce thatโ€™s not too spicy.

Besides the famous goat curry roti, you can order egg roti, banana roti, and sweet versions too. They also serve chicken curry, beef curry, and Thai-style biryani with fried chicken. Prices range from 30 to 80 Baht per dish, making it very affordable. The beef soup is another popular choice with a clear, tangy broth.

We recommend arriving early since popular dishes sell out quickly. The restaurant only accepts cash payments and has simple plastic tables and chairs, and it can get quite hot. You can watch the cooks prepare your food in the open kitchen. Itโ€™s a great spot to try authentic Thai-Muslim breakfast food without spending much money.
