Phuket Town

Phuket Town is the island’s historic centre, located on the east coast away from the beaches. The old quarter is full of colourful Sino-Portuguese shophouses dating back to the tin mining era, many of which have been restored and turned into cafes, small hotels, and galleries.

Thalang Road is the main street of the old town, lined with restored buildings and a good selection of local restaurants. Side streets and alleyways are covered in street art, making it one of the best areas in Phuket for photography. The architecture is unlike anything you will see at the beaches, with a strong Chinese and European influence from the 19th century.

The Sunday Walking Street Market is one of the best times to visit. Thalang Road closes to traffic in the evening, and vendors set up stalls selling local food, crafts, and souvenirs. The atmosphere is lively, and the street food is some of the best on the island.

Phuket Town also has several Chinese shrines, small museums, and some of the best local restaurants anywhere in Phuket. For the full guide, see Phuket Town.
