A Rooftop Beach Club Above Patong
FlyO is a rooftop bar on the 3rd floor of the Beyond Patong Hotel, a short walk from Bangla Road. Patong has hundreds of bars at street level but almost nothing up high, so FlyO fills a gap that’s been missing for years. I went there last week expecting a standard hotel bar, and it turned out to be a proper rooftop with real effort put into the design.
The Design
The whole place borrows from Santorini’s white-washed look, and it actually works. The main deck has a pool running through it with curved, sunken seating pods built right into the water. You sit in these round booths surrounded by the pool, with LED lights glowing amber and pink underneath once the sun drops. A central bar under a large canopy is in the middle, with the bartenders working a circular counter. Tables are spread around the edges with views toward Patong Beach through glass panels.
Go up a few steps, and there’s a second level with a completely different feel. Whitewashed arches with thatched roofs create semi-private alcoves, each with a curved bench and wooden table. It’s quieter up here, good for a group that wants to talk without competing with the music downstairs.
Drinks and Food
The cocktail menu covers the usual classics plus some house creations. Signature drinks include the FlyO Sunset Spritz with prosecco and Thai herbs, Patong Punch with rum and pineapple, and a Blue Beach Mule made with lemongrass and ginger beer. They stock premium spirits, wines, craft beers, and mocktails. Hookah is available too, and seems popular with the crowd.
Food is bar-level, not a dinner destination. Sushi rolls, grilled sliders, tacos, and Asian-fusion skewers. Enough to keep you going between drinks.
When to Go
Arrive around 5 pm for the sunset. The sky turns pink over the Andaman, and the whole place looks great at that hour. Later on, the DJs start, and it shifts into party mode. The place has two personalities, and you can pick whichever suits your mood.
How to Get There
The entrance isn’t obvious. You go through Black Out Patong on Sawatdirak Road and take the elevator up. Don’t walk around the hotel looking for a sign at street level because you won’t find one.
