An Instagram Cafe on the Patong to Kamala Road

Cafe Phuket Viewpoint is a colourful hillside cafe on the road between Patong and Kamala Beach. It’s been around for years under different names but became popular when the owner loaded it with swings, pink decor and sea-view photo spots that practically beg to be shared online. I first visited when the place was much smaller than it is today. It’s grown into a massive terraced operation, with staircases running all the way from the roadside down toward the sea.

How It Works

Here’s what catches people off guard. You order and pay at the entrance before they let you down to the seating area. Each person must order at least one food item and one drink. If you don’t want to order that much, staff may charge a seat fee of 200 to 300 Baht instead. Once you’ve paid, you walk down steep staircases to the different levels. The place is big, spread across multiple terraces built into the rocky hillside, and staff can’t always keep up. Service is uneven, but that’s the reality at most of these cliff-side cafes that have popped up along Phuket’s west coast lately.

The Photo Spots

The owner packed in as many photo setups as possible. Bali-style swings over the sea, heart-shaped frames, pink corners, circular arches and tiered decks all facing sunset. There’s a dress rental service for women who want a full photo shoot. The lower deck has the best sunset angle but fills up fast. Get there before 4 pm if you want a good spot.

Food and Drinks

Cafe Phuket Viewpoint

You come here for the view, not the food. Drinks cost around 150 to 400 Baht, food from 250 to 500 Baht. The menu covers coffee, smoothies, cocktails and a mix of Thai and Western dishes including pizza. Food quality is average. The view is doing the heavy lifting here. That said, the cocktails are fine while watching the sun go down.

Good to Know

Cafe Phuket Viewpoint

The cafe is in a blind curve on the Patong to Kamala road. Easy to drive right past. Look for the wooden entrance with brown leaf panels on the sea side. Parking is limited, especially if you’re in a car. Motorbikes fit more easily. The staircases are steep, so watch your step and skip the lower levels if mobility is a concern.

My Take

Cafe Phuket Viewpoint

I went there for the first time when the place was only a fraction of what it’s become today. The prices are a bit higher than expected and the service is quite uneven, especially at these bars that recently exploded on the rocky hillsides of Phuket’s west coast. The places are huge, with staircases going all the way down from the roadside to sea level, so it’s challenging for staff to be attentive. But the place is worth the price.

Cafe Phuket Viewpoint

t’s colourful and fun, and the owner added as many photo playgrounds as possible to make sure customers have fun, and promote the place by doing so. Cafe Phuket Viewpoint is in a curve on the way to Kamala Beach from Patong and easy to miss. Parking is limited, especially if you drive a car.
