Coffee Talk Cafe at Thavorn Museum

A Museum Coffee Shop with Vintage Decor

Coffee Talk Cafe on Ratsada Road in Phuket town is easy to miss if you walk by, but it is also easy to spot because of the unusual and beautiful vintage black car ornamenting the front door, as it serves as the entrance of the Thavorn Phuket Museum in Phuket Old Town. This isn’t just a coffee shop, it’s a display of vintage treasures collected over decades. The cafe celebrates the golden era of the Thavorn Hotel with hundreds of restored objects filling every wall and corner.

The decor tells a story. Vintage guitars, old radios, antique lamps, and classic movie posters hang throughout the space. Two restored classic cars sit inside the cafe, their fronts serving as unique tables for guests. Industrial wheels, brass lanterns, and memorabilia from Phuket’s past fill shelves and display areas. The colour scheme of blue walls, wooden accents, and warm lighting creates a comfortable atmosphere that feels both modern and nostalgic.

The cafe functions as both a coffee shop and the museum entrance. Visitors can enjoy drinks and light bites whilst surrounded by this huge collection of curated pieces. Many visitors stay longer than expected, drawn in by the fascinating collection and relaxed vibe.

What makes it special

Most cafes in Old Town serve coffee in renovated shophouses. This one serves it next to a 1960s Bentley. The owners didn’t separate the collection from the cafe; they made it the cafe. You order at the counter while looking at vintage radios and old movie posters. Your table might be beside a glass case of antique lamps or under a wall of framed photographs from the hotel’s early years. The setup works because nothing feels roped off or untouchable. Kids point at things. People take photos. It’s more like visiting someone’s eccentric living room than a formal museum space.

A door at the back leads into the Thavorn Museum proper, where the serious collection continues. Most visitors start with coffee and end up wandering through. The 120 Baht museum entry is separate from the cafe.

Practical details

Coffee and cold drinks are standard cafe prices for Phuket Town. They do light food too. The space is air-conditioned, which matters in the afternoon heat. Seating is mixed, some regular tables, some built around the vintage cars. It fills up on weekends but weekday mornings are quiet. No pressure to rush or buy anything beyond your drink.

Most visitors end up staying longer than planned. What starts as a quick coffee turns into 30 minutes of looking at old radios, vintage toys, and mining equipment. The museum entrance is right there if you want to continue exploring, 120 Baht for the full collection.

About the Thavorn Phuket Museum

Thavorn Museum in Phuket Town

Built in 1960, the Thavorn Hotel on Ratsada Road has a long story in Old Phuket Town. The museum originally opened decades ago as a small, quirky hotel attraction that was more an anecdotal storage of all the old stuff and equipment used in the many years of the hotel’s operation, including phone dispatches, old, rusted movie projectors, and laundry machines. This new museum is a hidden trove of vintage artefacts with true human history attached to each object!
