Hospitals and Clinics in Phuket

Phuket Hospitals and Clinics

There is a surprisingly large number of hospitals in Phuket if you consider how small the island is, and several of them are very high-end, with a trusted international level. The cost of surgery here is low and the standards high. Medical tourism is, therefore, a big draw.

You can get dentistry or cosmetic surgery at a much lower cost and on a tropical island! Makes a lot of sense. Here are some of the best-known hospitals in Phuket. Hopefully, you won’t need this page in case of an accident. (Please consider getting proper travel insurance before visiting!)

Bangkok Hospital Siriroj

Bangkok Hospital Siriroj

Bangkok Hospital Siriroj was the first private hospital to open in Southern Thailand, founded in 1982. Most locals still call it Phuket International Hospital, its former name. It’s now part of BDMS, Thailand’s largest hospital network with more than 48 hospitals.

Like Bangkok Hospital Phuket, it holds JCI accreditation. For travellers, the key services include 24-hour emergency, hyperbaric medicine for diving emergencies, and an 11-bed intensive care unit. They also have a dialysis program specifically set up for tourists visiting Phuket. The hospital is known for the Phuket Plastic Surgery Institute, one of the leading cosmetic surgery centres in Southeast Asia. Medical tourism for procedures like breast augmentation and facelifts is a big part of their business.

Prices tend to be slightly lower than those at Bangkok Hospital Phuket, and reviews mention shorter wait times and less aggressive billing. The trade-off is a smaller facility. Both hospitals work with international insurance companies and have English-speaking staff.

The hospital is in Phuket Town, near the Central Phuket Shopping Mall. It’s about 25 minutes from Patong, 35 minutes from Kata.

Bangkok Hospital Phuket

Bangkok Hospital Phuket

Bangkok Hospital Phuket is the largest private hospital on the island, and the one most tourists end up at for anything serious. It’s on Yaowarat Road in Phuket Town, about 30 minutes from Patong or Kata Beach. The hospital has JCI international accreditation, which is the gold standard for medical facilities. They have interpreters for major languages and a dedicated international patient centre. Most travel insurance companies work directly with them.

For travellers, they handle everything from minor issues like infections and broken bones to serious emergencies. There’s a 24-hour emergency department, and they can arrange medical evacuation if needed. Costs are higher than government hospitals but still reasonable by Western standards. A doctor consultation costs around 800-1,500 Baht. Always keep receipts for insurance claims.

Their main number is 076-254-425, with a 24-hour emergency line. They also have a smaller clinic in Patong for minor issues.

Location: Phuket Town
Address: 2 1 Hongyokutis Rd, Tambon Talat Yai, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket 83000
Open 24 hours

Dibuk Hospital

Dibuk Hospital

Dibuk Hospital opened in 2014 and is part of the BDMS network, the same group that runs Bangkok Hospital Phuket. It’s on Chao Fa West Road in southern Phuket, near King Power and opposite Kajonkiet International School.

The hospital positions itself as efficient and affordable care. It’s smaller than the main Bangkok Hospital facilities but offers 24-hour emergency services and handles common traveller issues like accidents, flu, and stomach problems. When patients need more advanced care, they’re referred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket or Siriroj.

For tourists, the useful bit is their international coordinator team who speak over ten languages, including Russian, Chinese, French, German, and Arabic. Prices are lower thanthose at the main Bangkok Hospital branches, and reviews consistently mention reasonable charges and short waiting times.

Think of it as the budget-friendly option within the private hospital network. Good for minor issues, with a clear pathway to bigger facilities if needed. Phone: 076-298-298.

Location: Chalong
Address: 89 / 8-9 Moo 2 Chaofa Rd Wichit, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket 83000
Open 24 hours

Mission Hospital Phuket

Mission Hospital Phuket is a non-profit private hospital established in 1940. It’s part of over 400 health service institutions operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church worldwide. The hospital is on Thepkrasattri Road in Phuket Town, opposite the Toyota showroom.

For travellers, the key appeal is price. It’s about half the cost of Bangkok Hospital Phuket while still being a proper private facility with modern equipment. It’s also the only private hospital in Phuket that accepts Thai government social insurance.

General practitioners are on call 24 hours. Specialists, including neurologists, urologists, radiologists, and psychiatrists, are available by appointment. The hospital has over 100 inpatient beds and achieved Hospital Accreditation, which it has maintained through regular re-accreditation.

The trade-off: reviews are mixed on wait times, and some report the experience can feel less polished than the big private hospitals. Best to go with a Thai-speaking person to help with communication. Phone: 076-237-220.

Location: Phuket Town
Address: 4, 1 Thep Krasattri Rd, Ratsada, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket 83000
Open 24 hours
Phone: 076-237-220.

Patong Hospital

Patong Hospital

Patong Hospital is the only public hospital in Patong. It’s on Sainamyen Road, about 5 minutes from Bangla Road and the beach. The hospital opened in 1986 and has around 100 beds.

Because of its location, Patong Hospital deals with a fair number of tourists. If you have an accident on a motorbike or get injured in Patong at night, this is likely where the ambulance will bring you first. The hospital has a 24-hour emergency department and can handle initial stabilisation before transferring you to a larger facility if needed.

Services include general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, obstetrics, ENT, dermatology, and internal medicine. Specialist clinics run Monday to Friday only, so check their schedule.

Like other government hospitals, prices are low, but the English-speaking staff are limited. For anything serious, expect a transfer to Bangkok Hospital Phuket or Vachira. Good for minor emergencies when you need somewhere close.

Location: Patong Beach
Address: 57 Sainamyen Rd, Pa Tong, Kathu District, Chang Wat Phuket 83150
Phone: 076-342-633
Open 24 hours

Vachira Phuket Hospital

Vachira Phuket Hospital

Vachira Phuket Hospital is the main government hospital in Phuket, founded in 1906. It’s on Yaowarat Road in Phuket Town, about 20 minutes from Patong. The hospital has over 500 beds and more than 70 doctors.

Most tourists go to private hospitals like Bangkok Hospital Phuket. But Vachira treats patients first and deals with payment after, unlike private hospitals that require deposits. This makes it the default option for uninsured travellers or anyone who can’t pay upfront in an emergency.

The trade-offs are real. Expect long waits, possibly a whole day, and very few staff speak English. Bring a Thai-speaking friend if you can. The hospital has an international department, which helps foreigners navigate the system, but don’t expect the smooth coordination you’d get at private hospitals.

Costs are a fraction of private facilities. A consultation that costs 1,500 Baht at Bangkok Hospital might be 200-300 Baht here. Phone: 076-361-234.

Location: Phuket Town
Address: 353 Yaowarat Rd, Tambon Talat Yai, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket 83000
Open 24 hours
Phone: 076 361 234
