A Shopping Mall in Patong Beach
Central Patong is a four-storey shopping mall in the heart of Patong Beach, right next to Bangla Road. The mall opened in 2019 and focuses on shopping and dining rather than entertainment. If you’re familiar with Central department stores in Bangkok, you’ll recognise the layout immediately.
Quick Summary
The ground floor has cosmetics, sunglasses and accessories. The second floor has clothing brands. The upper floor covers luggage, toys and homeware. The basement is the busiest part, with the Central Food Hall supermarket and a nicely designed food court surrounded by independent restaurants. Central Food Hall is one of the better supermarkets in Patong, selling quality fresh products and imported goods. We use it regularly.
Central Patong stands directly across from Jungceylon, but the two malls attract different crowds. Jungceylon is an all-in-one entertainment and shopping destination with a cinema, bowling alley, and night market atmosphere. Central Patong is quieter and more traditional. It feels like a proper department store rather than a tourist attraction. The challenge for Central Patong has always been competition. Patong visitors tend to prefer night markets and bargain shopping over branded goods at full price. Many complain that prices in Phuket malls are the same as back home. Still, if you want air conditioning, a clean food court, and a decent supermarket without fighting through crowds, Central Patong is a good option.
Food and Food Court
The underground floor is more lively and is divided into two sections: the Central Food Hall supermarket and the dining area. Central Food Hall is quite a good supermarket selling high-end fresh products, and we use them frequently in Phuket town or Bangkok. The dining area has a nicely designed food court surrounded by independent restaurants. This floor was not busy, but it might just be a question of time.
The location of this new mall is strategic, but attracting Patong tourists away from the now-famous Jungceylon seems to be very challenging, especially without entertainment as the main bait. Time will tell.
