A historic mansion serving refined northern Thai food
Kiti Panit is one of those rare places that combines good food with a strong sense of history. The building used to be Chiang Maiโs first hardware store over a century ago, but stood empty for many years. One of the younger family members eventually decided to restore it and turn it into a restaurant, keeping the old structure and bringing back its original charm.
The restaurant is elegant and beautiful in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu focuses on northern Thai dishes, many of them based on family recipes or inspired by local flavours. They use high-quality ingredients, and the flavours are bold without trying too hard. Popular dishes include Gaeng Hang Lay, tea leaf salad, and crispy rice with coconut milk. They also serve in house made desserts with local touches.
The restaurant has two beautiful floors, plenty of natural light, and a lovely garden space in the back. Much of the original furniture is still in place, mixed with antiques and vintage details. Kiti Panit is often quiet during the day, with soft music and a calm atmosphere, but itโs also become a favourite photo spot, especially thanks to the staircase and upstairs corners that still feel like stepping into another time.
