A French Restaurant in Patong Beach
Cafe de Paris is tucked away in Soi Tower, a quiet pedestrian alley just off Patong Beach road and a short walk south of Bangla Road. The location is part of what makes it special. Step off the busy main road, walk a couple of minutes down the alley, and suddenly you are in a small French bistro that feels a world away from Patong.

The restaurant has been running for more than 10 years, which is a long time for any restaurant in Patong. It is run by two chefs: Alain Carré from France and Georges Dufresne from Switzerland, who is also behind the signature Cafe de Paris sauce. The menu is not large, but it does not need to be. The focus is on classic French cooking done well: striploin steak with the house Cafe de Paris sauce, foie gras, duck, prawns in champagne sauce, fresh seafood and salads. The desserts are worth saving room for, particularly the crème brûlée and the chocolate lava cake.

The decor is simple and warm, with wooden tables, white walls and soft lighting. It feels more like a neighbourhood bistro in a French town than a tourist restaurant. The wine list is decent and reasonably priced for Patong. There is seating inside and on the terrace, and the terrace is the better choice on a cool evening.

Cafe de Paris also has a few rooms upstairs if you want to stay right above the restaurant, just 100 metres from the beach. The service is personal and friendly, the kind you get from a place where the owners are usually there.
For a quiet, genuine French meal in Patong, this is one of the best options on the island.
