Salsa Mexicana Phuket

A Mexican Restaurant with Ocean Views on Kalim Bay

Salsa Mexicana is one of those places you go for the location first and the food second. Built on a rocky hillside above the ocean between Patong and Kamala, the restaurant drops down in terraces from road level to the waterline. We came for sunset and weren’t disappointed. The views across the Andaman Sea are wide open, almost 180 degrees, and the whole place turns golden as the sun goes down.

Where is Salsa Mexicana?

The restaurant is on Prabaramee Road, the coastal road connecting Patong to Kamala. It’s in the Kalim Bay area, close to the Wyndham Grand hotel. This is important to know because it’s not in Patong itself. You’ll need a taxi, tuk-tuk, or scooter to get here. From central Patong, it’s about 10 to 15 minutes by road. Don’t plan on walking back after dinner either, especially at night on that road. There’s street parking if you’re driving, but it’s not that big.

The Restaurant Location

This is what makes Salsa Mexicana worth the trip. The whole place is built into the hillside with terraces at different levels. Some have wooden tables under striped umbrellas, others have covered areas with fans, and the lowest level has round wicker seats right on the rocks by the water. Every chair has a colourful sombrero hanging on the back. The tablecloths are bright pink and floral. There’s a big heart-shaped frame near the bottom terrace that’s clearly there for photos.

Book a table on one of the sea-facing terraces if you can. Call ahead for sunset, especially during high season. Some say the tables fill up fast between 5 and 7 pm, but it was actually easy to get one when I came; the place wasn’t busy.

The Food

We ordered chicken fajitas, and they came sizzling on a hot plate with all the sides: guacamole, sour cream, salsa, rice, and cheese. I wasn’t expecting much from a Mexican restaurant in Phuket, but the food was genuinely good. The chicken was well seasoned and the portions were generous. The menu covers all the usual Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. They also serve Thai and European food, which is handy if someone in your group doesn’t fancy Mexican.

Main dishes run between 200 and 400 Baht. A meal for two with drinks will come to around 1,200 to 1,500 Baht. No service charge or tax is added to the bill, which is a nice touch. They take Visa and Mastercard.

The Service

The staff were friendly and attentive but never pushy. They checked on us a couple of times during the meal and were happy to suggest dishes. One thing I noticed is that they offered to call us a driver when we finished, which was thoughtful given the location.

Salsa Mexicana is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm. They added a new “Salsa Seaview” zone in late 2025, a viewing area closer to the sea with no entrance fee. The restaurant is family-friendly with highchairs available. Vegetarian and vegan options are on the menu. Free WiFi. Reservations aren’t required but recommended for sunset tables.
