Giant Robots and Sunset Sea Views in Phuket

Iron Bot Cafe is hard to miss. Two massive robot statues guard the entrance on the coastal road between Patong Beach and Kamala Beach. We stopped here on a late afternoon drive and ended up staying for sunset.

The Robots

The place is packed with sculptures made from recycled car parts and scrap metal. Bumblebee and Optimus Prime stand at the entrance, but inside you’ll find more. Darth Vader on a throne. C-3PO. Iron Man poses. Kids love it. Adults spend ages taking photos.

An entire room is dedicated to these metal sculptures. More than 20 machines stand around the space, from Transformers to Star Wars characters to superheroes. It’s impressive, but the room is quite dark. We struggled to get good photos in there. Your phone flash won’t do much against life-sized metal robots.

The bar counter itself is built from the front ends of two cars, complete with headlights. It’s a bit mad, honestly. Every corner has something to look at.

The Views from The Cliffs

The entrance at the top looks small. Just a narrow gap between the robots. But Iron Bot is surprisingly big once you walk in. The whole place is built down the side of a cliff on multiple levels. Wooden stairs lead to lower terraces with seats facing the Andaman Sea. There are swings, net loungers over the water, and bar stools right at the edge.

There are many platforms to choose from, but the dense trees hide the sea views quite a bit. You’ll need to pick your spot carefully. We grabbed seats around 5 pm and watched the sun drop. One of the better sunset spots we’ve found on this stretch of coast.

Practical Info

The cafe is open daily from 10 am to 11 pm. No entrance fee, but there’s a one-drink minimum per person. Coffee and smoothies run 100 to 180 Baht. Beers and cocktails cost 200 to 350 Baht. They serve food too, Thai dishes around 150 to 300 Baht and pizzas from 300 Baht. You don’t need a reservation. Just pop up anytime.

Iron Bot Cafe is on Prabaramee Road, about five minutes north of Patong heading towards Kamala. Look for the giant robots on your left.
