What to Do in Sukhumvit?
Sukhumvit is one of the most versatile areas of Bangkok, with a huge array of hotels and restaurants, from street food to affordable Michelin Star restaurants. Sukhumvit neighbourhood is immense and is a popular residential area for expats who live mostly in the many sois that branch out from the main road. The most popular roads, locally called Sois, are Thonglor (Soi 55) Soi and Ekkamai (Soi 63). Sukhumvit Road is 488 km long and starts at Ploenchit Road and stretches to Trang. And, of course, Sukhumvit is where the famous red-light districts are: Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza.
Tichuca Rooftop Bar

The Octave Rooftop Lounge and Bar is one of the most impressive in Bangkok by size. On three floors at the top of the Bangkok Marriott Hotel on Sukhumvit 57, Octave offers a full 360 view of the capital with a great perspective on the entire BTS track and the usual traffic jams so famous on Sukhumvit road. Fortunately, it is also very easy to reach by BTS.

Shopping in Sukhumvit
While the Siam neighbourhood is where the concentration of shopping is the highest, there are a few immense shopping malls in the busiest part of Sukhumvit, such as Emquartier and Terminal 21, which are the best known.

Emporium

Emporium is a well-known department store on Sukhumvit Road, right next to the Phrom Phong BTS station. It first opened its doors on July 27, 1997, and has been a familiar name for shopping in Bangkok ever since. The building is part of a group of three malls, known as the EM District, which also includes EmQuartier across the street and Emsphere next door.

Where to Eat in Sukhumvit
If you’re staying around Sukhumvit, you’ll never have to worry about finding something good to eat. There are just so many restaurants packed into every street and alley, from casual local spots to fancy hotel dining rooms. You can walk out of almost any hotel and find plenty of choices within a few minutes — no planning needed. Sukhumvit is famous for its huge variety, including Thai food, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Middle Eastern, Italian, and just about everything else you can think of. Some places are hidden away inside malls and hotels, while others are easy to spot just by walking around. It’s one of those areas where you could spend weeks trying a different restaurant every day and still barely scratch the surface.
Sushi Masato Bangkok
Sushi Masato is Bangkok’s most exclusive address, even more since the restaurant received a prestigious Michelin Star. This Japanese restaurant can only accommodate ten guests and is booked more than three months in advance unless you are lucky enough to catch a cancelled booking, which is how we got our seats twice. Before moving to Bangkok, Chef Masato worked in New York in a Michelin-star restaurant called 15 East Restaurant.

Located in Sukhumvit 20, Banjoo Korean BBQ is where we go for a treat in Bangkok, and Banjoo stands out for its focus on premium meats, seafood, and those little side dishes we always enjoy. The team here sources Wagyu and Black Angus beef from Australia, as well as fresh pork, chicken, and seafood from both local and Japanese suppliers.

Wattana Panich
We have been going to Wattana Panich on Ekkamai Road for more than 15 years. From the first time we walked into the small and very local restaurant, it became one of our favourite places for beef noodle soup in Bangkok. The highlight is, of course, the famous beef stew. It simmers in an immense pot at the entrance, facing the busy road, and it has been cooking for decades. They keep the broth alive by adding fresh ingredients every day, allowing the flavours to become richer and deeper over the years. Just seeing that giant pot bubbling away is already part of the experience.
