A Guide to Sukhumvitโs Top Restaurants
Sukhumvit is one of the most vibrant and lively neighbourhoods in Bangkok. It is home to a diverse culinary scene that appeals to all people. Whether itโs Thai street food, fine dining or other extravagant experiences, Sukhumvit has it all. In this guide, we will cover the great restaurants in Sukhumvit that we have tried and highlight them. From hidden gems to iconic Michelin restaurants, the restaurant scene here is perfect for any visitor.
Sushi Masato Bangkok
Sushi Masato is Bangkokโs most exclusive address, even more since the restaurant received a prestigious Michelin Star. This Japanese restaurant can only accommodate ten guests and is booked more than three months in advance unless you are lucky enough to catch a cancelled booking, which is how we got our seats twice. Before moving to Bangkok, Chef Masato worked in New York in a Michelin-star restaurant called 15 East Restaurant.
Sushi Masato is pushing this sense of super exclusive and almost mysterious feeling to the extreme. Once the big day arrives, and you are on your way to the restaurant, you better have your phone and Google Maps to get you there. The restaurant is tucked in an alley off a street off Sukhumvit Road. The alley is quite dark, and the restaurant has no sign, only an anonymous door. If you know Japan, the 2 little saucers filled with salt are a hint that this is a Japanese restaurant, but since there are so many, it could be any restaurant. Second hint: a tiny light says โsushiโ.

Banjoo Korean BBQ
Located in Sukhumvit 20, Banjoo Korean BBQ is where we go for a treat in Bangkok, and Banjoo stands out for its focus on premium meats, seafood, and those little side dishes we always enjoy. The team here sources Wagyu and Black Angus beef from Australia, as well as fresh pork, chicken, and seafood from both local and Japanese suppliers.
Banjoo Korean BBQ is owned by Chef Injin Kim, a Seoul-born chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu Dusit in Bangkok. With a decade in Thailand and roots in a restaurant-owning family, Lauren blends professional French culinary training with authentic Korean recipes. She focuses on premium meats and natural ingredients, avoiding shortcuts.

Wattana Panich
We have been going to Wattana Panich on Ekkamai Road for more than 15 years. From the first time we walked into the small and very local restaurant, it became one of our favourite places for beef noodle soup in Bangkok.
The highlight is, of course, the famous beef stew. It simmers in an immense pot at the entrance, facing the busy road, and it has been cooking for decades. They keep the broth alive by adding fresh ingredients every day, allowing the flavours to become richer and deeper over the years. Just seeing that giant pot bubbling away is already part of the experience.

Appia Bangkok
Appia is an excellent Roman Trattoria hidden in Sukhumvit Soi 31 (also known as Soi Sawatdi) and run by Chef Paolo Vitaletti. Open for many years, Appia became a name to remember for Italian food lovers. Therefore, booking your table in advance is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. The dishes are truly delicious, and the atmosphere is cosy and casual, just as you expect it to be when you want to meet friends for a good time.
The place is small and divided into an elongated indoor area and a terrace by the street. The terrace sounds like the most attractive place, but remember that road traffic can be noisy and not to everyoneโs taste. The indoor dining room is cosy, with part of the open kitchen behind a wide bar counter at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is small but very popular, and therefore fully booked all the time.
