Appia Bangkok – Italian Restaurant in Sukhumvit

Appia Roman Trattoria

Appia is an excellent Roman Trattoria hidden in Sukhumvit Soi 31 (also known as Soi Sawatdi) and run by Chef Paolo Vitaletti. Open for many years, Appia became a name to remember for Italian food lovers. Therefore, booking your table in advance is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. The dishes are truly delicious, and the atmosphere is cosy and casual, just as you expect it to be when you want to meet friends for a good time.

The place is small and divided into an elongated indoor area and a terrace by the street. The terrace sounds like the most attractive place, but remember that road traffic can be noisy and not to everyone’s taste. The indoor dining room is cosy, with part of the open kitchen behind a wide bar counter at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is small but very popular, and therefore fully booked all the time.

What we ordered

Italian cold cuts and cheeses serve Mediterranean seafood, imported meats, and a wide range of excellent wines. The daily homemade pasta, including gluten-free, is one of the restaurant’s highlights. As an antipasto, Appia’s Famous Special Chicken Liver Crostini (Chicken liver pate, grilled Conkey’s sourdough, Maldon salt – 200 baht) is as good as people say and deserves its name.

We enjoyed the natural freshness of the thin slices of ‘A Simple Zucchini Salad’ served with 24 months of Parmesan cheese, mint and olive oil (290 baht). As it was the right time of the year, we tried some seasonal Porcini (590 baht). As the main, we had a Mazara Prawn Risotto (990 baht) and Garganelli Shellfish (450 baht), followed by a delicious and light Tiramisu at 350 baht.
