6 Best Rooftop Bars in Ploenchit

Explore the Rooftops of Ploenchit

Ploenchit sits between Siam and Sukhumvit, quieter than both but with some excellent rooftop options. The newest is Akara Sky Hanuman on the 61st floor, which opened in late 2023. It’s the second-highest rooftop bar in Bangkok after Mahanakhon, and we think the atmosphere is actually better. Less tourist-focused, more of a proper bar. Char at Hotel Indigo is completely different. It’s only on the 26th floor, but the setting is intimate, and the views toward Lumphini Park are lovely. We’ve had some of our best rooftop evenings here, partly because it never feels overcrowded. Bar.Yard at the Kimpton is quirkier, 40 floors up with a more playful design than the serious hotel bars nearby. Ploenchit rooftops tend to attract people who live in Bangkok rather than tourists passing through. The bars feel a bit more relaxed, the dress codes aren’t as strict, and you can usually get a table without booking ahead. The area is easy to reach, just one or two BTS stops from Siam, but it feels removed from the shopping chaos. If you want good rooftop drinks without the crowds and the performance of the famous bars, Ploenchit is worth considering.

🍹 The Rooftops of Ploenchit

Akara Sky Hanuman Bangkok

Akara Sky Hanuman Bangkok Rooftop

61st Floor – Location: Ploenchit
Akara Sky Hanuman is one of the most impressive rooftops I’ve visited lately. Perched on the 61st floor of One City Centre in Ploenchit, right across from Central Embassy, the view is nothing short of spectacular — you get nearly a full 360-degree panorama over Bangkok. It’s the second-highest rooftop in the city after Mahanakhon, but the atmosphere is completely different. While Mahanakhon feels like a tourist checkpoint, Akara is spacious and more relaxed, but it still feels a little undiscovered. There’s plenty of seating, and if you can, grab a spot near the edge to take in the skyline fully. Siam is in front of you, and Sukhumvit is behind.

Char Rooftop Bar

Char Rooftop Bar

26th Floor – Location: Ploenchit

Char Rooftop Bar is on the 26th floor of Hotel Indigo in the Wireless Road area, and while it’s not one of the tallest rooftops, it has a cosy atmosphere that I’ve always liked. It feels more personal than many of the big hotel bars, and the location gives you a nice view over the Ploenchit skyline, with a mix of city towers and tree-lined streets below.

The rooftop is split into two levels, and I usually go straight to the top floor to grab one of the corner seats. It’s especially nice just before sunset when the light hits the buildings around Sukhumvit. There’s music playing in the background most nights, but it stays soft enough to have a conversation. The menu mixes Thai and Western dishes, and the drinks list has all the classics, plus a few house cocktails. I tend to keep it simple and enjoy the quieter vibe compared to some of the louder rooftops. Read more about CHAR Rooftop Bar.

Hi-So Bar at So/Bangkok

Hi So rooftop bar at So Sofitel Bangkok

26th Floor – Location: Sathorn

HI-SO Rooftop Bar is one of the few places in Bangkok where you get a full view of Lumphini Park from above. I’ve been a few times, and that mix of greenery and skyline always makes this rooftop feel a bit more special, especially in the late afternoon when the sun starts dipping behind the city.

The bar is on the 29th floor of SO/ Bangkok, just off Sathorn Road. It’s not one of the highest rooftops in town, but the view is wide and open. I usually head straight for one of the tables near the edge to look out over the park. The atmosphere can vary — sometimes there’s a DJ playing chilled music, sometimes it’s quieter — but it never feels overwhelming. The drinks menu has a good mix of classics and house cocktails. I tend to go for something simple here — maybe a gin and tonic or a local beer — and just enjoy the breeze and the view. It’s a nice place to meet up with friends or take a break after a walk through Lumphini. It’s casual enough that you don’t need to dress up, but it still feels like a treat. Up and Above

un and above at the okura prestige bangkok

24th floor – Location: Ploenchit
Up & Above Bar at The Okura Prestige Bangkok is one of those rooftops that feels calm and elegant from the moment you step in. Located on the 24th floor, it doesn’t reach the dizzying heights of some of Bangkok’s tallest sky bars, but the view over the city is still wide and impressive, especially in the late afternoon light. I’ve been there a couple of times when I was looking for a quieter spot with a view of the area. The atmosphere is refined and peaceful, with soft lighting, a minimalist design where you can enjoy a proper conversation without shouting over music.

Penthouse at Park Hyatt

Penthouse Rooftop Park Hyatt Bangkok, Central Embassy

35th floor – Location: Ploenchit
Penthouse Bar + Grill at Park Hyatt Bangkok is one of the most stylish rooftop venues in the city, and a great place to head after shopping at Central Embassy, which is just below. I’ve stopped by more than once after wandering through the mall — it’s a perfect way to transition from retail therapy to a relaxing evening with a view.

Siwilai City Club

Siwilai Sky Club at Central Embasy

5th floor – Location: Ploenchit
Siwilai City Club is not your typical rooftop bar. It’s only on the 5th floor of Central Embassy, so you won’t get sweeping skyline views, but I’ve always liked it for the easy-going vibe. It’s open-air, relaxed, and never too crowded; a great place to take a break after walking through the mall. I’ve been a few times after browsing around Central Embassy, and it feels relaxed and easy-going. The design is stylish but casual, with wooden decks, large tables, comfy lounge chairs, and some greenery that gives a beach club feel in the middle of Bangkok.
  • Location: Ploenchit (Central Embassy)

FAQs about the Rooftops of PLoenchit

A. Akara Sky Hanuman is the standout choice. It’s on the 61st floor, making it the second-highest rooftop in Bangkok. The views are spectacular, the space is generous, and it attracts more locals than tourists. For a more intimate evening, Char at Hotel Indigo is smaller but has a lovely atmosphere.
A. Most Ploenchit rooftops are smart casual. Penthouse at Park Hyatt and Up & Above at The Okura expect collared shirts for men and no flip-flops. Akara Sky Hanuman and Siwilai City Club are more relaxed, though we’d still avoid beachwear.
A. Akara Sky Hanuman offers the best panorama from the 61st floor, with views toward Siam, Sukhumvit, and beyond. Hi-So at So/Bangkok has a different appeal, looking directly over Lumphini Park. Char has views toward Silom and the park as well, just from a lower angle.
A. Cocktails typically run 350 to 550 Baht. Penthouse at Park Hyatt is at the higher end. Siwilai City Club is more affordable, with beers around 200 Baht. Akara Sky Hanuman sits in the middle, reasonable for a 61st-floor bar.
