A Restaurant in Ploenchit
Flourish is the main dining venue at Sindhorn Kempinski Bangkok, and it surprised me in a good way. I wasn’t sure what to expect; it’s inside one of Bangkok’s most luxurious hotels in the green Langsuan area, not far from Lumphini Park. From the outside, it looked like another hotel restaurant. But once inside, the atmosphere was warm without being overdone.
I went for lunch on a quiet weekday in April 2025. The dining room was spacious, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls looking out onto a garden. It felt calm even though I was in the middle of Bangkok. One thing I noticed, the air conditioning was running quite cold, so bring a light layer if you’re coming from outside. The staff welcomed me with that very natural Thai service, not overly formal, just genuinely friendly.

I visited during the hot season to try something quite special: their Khao Chae, a traditional Thai summer dish that’s not easy to find anymore, especially done well.
The Khao Chae arrived on a large tray, all the traditional condiments placed neatly around a bowl of jasmine-scented rice in iced water. Each item was made with care, especially the stuffed shallots and the sweet-salty shredded pork. The luk kapi (shrimp paste balls) were rich but balanced, not overly strong. They also offered a refreshing herbal drink on the side to cool down even more. At around 890 Baht, it’s not cheap, but this is a five-star hotel kitchen putting real effort in.
Khao Chae is usually only available during the hottest months, so it felt like a treat to enjoy it in such a nice setting. The kitchen clearly knew what they were doing. This wasn’t a rushed or commercial version. The hotel serves both Thai and Middle Eastern guests, so both kitchens get equal focus, which probably helps keep standards high across the menu.
If you plan ahead, there’s a Chef’s Table experience worth looking into. It’s a six-course Thai dinner by Chef Chatsorn Pratoomma, served at a dedicated counter inside the Thai kitchen area. I didn’t get to try it this time, but I could see the setup from where I was sitting, and it looked like a good way to get closer to the cooking. Evening only, booking required.
Desserts follow the same modern Thai direction. I had a light dish with white chocolate, lychee, and yuzu gel. Sweet but not too heavy. Honestly, a good way to end lunch without feeling stuffed.
Pricing is on the high end but fair for a hotel restaurant at this level. What made Flourish stand out was the balance between a proper hotel setting and real Thai cooking. It’s not trying to be trendy or loud. Just a well-run, comfortable place for a quiet lunch or a nice dinner. Not the most exciting room in Bangkok, but the food does the talking.
