The Heart of Sukhumvit Shopping
Emporium is a well-known department store on Sukhumvit Road, right next to the Phrom Phong BTS station. It first opened its doors on July 27, 1997, and has been a familiar name for shopping in Bangkok ever since. The building is part of a group of three malls, known as the EM District, which also includes EmQuartier across the street and Emsphere next door.
Recent Renovation
Emporium has changed a lot in recent years. The most recent renovation started in late 2021 and finished in the first half of 2022. The goal was to update the look and feel of the store, making it more comfortable and modern for shoppers. The renovation included new layouts, updated interiors, and a reshuffling of the shops. Now, the store feels brighter and more open, with clear signs and easy access to each section.
What You Find Inside
Emporium covers six floors. Each floor has a different focus:
- Ground Floor: International designer brands and cosmetics.
- Second and Third Floors: Fashion for men, women, and children.
- Fourth Floor: Electronics, home décor, and lifestyle products.
- Fifth Floor: Gourmet supermarket and food court.
- Sixth Floor: Emprivé Cineclub, a luxury cinema.
There is also a direct connection to Benchasiri Park, which is a nice place to relax after shopping. Above the mall, Emporium Suites offers hotel rooms for visitors who want to stay in the area.
The EM District
Emporium is just a third of the group. Across the street and connected by a wide bridge, EmQuartier offers more shopping and dining options, with a modern design and a beautiful spiral walkway that connects the different levels. Just next to Emporioum, the immense Emsphere, which opened in December 2023, is the newest part of the district and brings even more shops, restaurants, event spaces and an entire floor dedicated to IKEA. Together, these three malls create a large shopping area with something for everyone.
Getting There
The easiest way to reach Emporium is by BTS Skytrain. The Phrom Phong station connects directly to the mall, so you do not need to walk far. Taxis and buses are also available, but traffic in Sukhumvit can be busy, especially during rush hour.
Emporium has been part of Bangkok’s shopping scene for more than 25 years. After its recent renovation, it feels fresh and up to date, while still offering the brands and services people expect. Its location, right in the heart of Sukhumvit and next to two other major malls, makes it a convenient stop for both locals and visitors.
