A Japanese Izakaya with a Fun Design in Bangkok
Izakaya Hotei is one of the most playful and surprising Japanese restaurants weโve seen in Bangkok. Located on the third floor, on the terrace that connects The Parade zone to The Storeys zone inside One Bangkok, this venue stands out the moment you arrive. The front looks exactly like a Japanese Family Mart convenience store, complete with bright blue signage, vending machines and plastic waiting seats that remind many of a bus stop in Tokyo. But once inside, the space transforms into something much more layered and unexpected.
The restaurant is cleverly divided into four themed zones, each inspired by a different side of Japanese daily life.
First, thereโs a casual open-plan dining area styled like a real izakaya, with lanterns, warm wooden tones, shelves full of sake bottles, and retro posters. This is the liveliest corner, and most guests choose to sit here when they come in groups.
Next, the train section is probably the most photographed. The team has recreated the interior of a Japanese commuter train, with the same blue and orange spiral fabric on the seats, grab handles hanging from metal bars above, and even a yellow tactile path running through the space. Itโs not just decoration โ this section really feels like being in a train carriage.
The third space is an outdoor terrace that opens onto a panoramic view of Bangkokโs skyline. From here, you can see Rama IV Road and Sathornโs tall buildings. Itโs especially nice at sunset when the city starts to light up.
Lastly, thereโs a quieter indoor corner for guests who want a more relaxed or private dining experience.
As for food, the menu includes a long list of casual Japanese dishes. They serve all the popular izakaya snacks like grilled skewers, pork belly with cheese, salted cabbage, sushi, and rice bowls. Itโs not a fancy restaurant โ itโs all about fun, nostalgia, and comfort. They also have a good list of drinks, including beers, sake, and colourful sodas from Hokkaido.
Izakaya Hotei is open daily from lunch to midnight. Itโs very easy to access by MRT (Lumphini Station is just a few minutes away). If youโre looking for somewhere that feels both familiar and unusual โ a place that blends Japanโs street culture with a touch of Bangkok creativity โ this is a fun spot to check out.
