Bangkok’s Green Escape
Benjakitti Park is where Bangkok office workers come to run. The 2.8 km loop around the lake gets crowded before 7 am and again after 5 pm when the heat drops. It’s flat, paved, and wide enough that you won’t constantly dodge other runners. The skyline views are a bonus, but most people are here because it’s one of the few proper running tracks in central Sukhumvit.

The park expanded in 2022 with a newer section running alongside the expressway. Big open lawns now. People spread out yoga mats, kick footballs around, have picnics on weekends. Outdoor gym equipment appears every few hundred metres along the paths. Nothing fancy, but functional. The expressway noise is there if you notice it, but most people tune it out.

Getting here is easier than it used to be. A pedestrian bridge now connects the park to Ploenchit, so you can walk from the BTS without crossing Rama IV on foot. The elevated walkway takes about 10 minutes and passes over some wetland areas. Queen Sirikit MRT station is even closer, basically right at the entrance.

The sports centre inside the park reopened in 2024 after renovations. It’s free. That’s the main thing. Spin classes with 50 bikes, yoga sessions, badminton courts, basketball, futsal. You just show up. Open 5 am to 10 pm daily. The equipment is new, and the air conditioning works. For central Bangkok, free sports facilities at this level are rare.
