Yaowarat’s Golden Age Cocktail Hideaway
Hidden above Chop Chop Cook Shop on the second floor, Goldsmith Bar transports you to 1920s Shanghai meets modern Chinatown. Opening in May 2025, it has become Bangkok’s best new bar of 2025. The space takes its name from the building’s past as a goldsmith’s shop, evident in the glimmering gold detailing throughout.
Atmosphere and Design
Think Art Deco luxury mixed with Oriental vintage touches. Bold red lacquer walls, jewel-toned furniture with geometric patterns, and dramatic lighting create an opulent hideaway from the street noise below. The atmosphere feels like stepping into a secret from Bangkok’s golden age—part Shanghai glamour, part Prohibition-era speakeasy.
Cocktails and Drinks
Head Bartender Nabiel Nasran crafts spirit-forward cocktails inspired by old Chinatown’s colourful history. Each drink tells a story. Third Tango (390 baht) blends gin, aromatic coffee oil, cinnamon wine, and Cointreau for something bold and smooth. Tea & Fire (450 baht) takes a savoury Bloody Mary approach with mezcal and Thai rice whisky. Liquid Gold (450 baht)—inspired by the building’s goldsmith heritage—combines gin, Lillet Blanc, and edible gold.
Chop Chop Cook Shop
Chop Chop Cook Shop occupies the ground floor of a beautiful Art Deco building that once housed goldsmiths at 328 Yaowarat Road in Bangkok’s Chinatown. The restaurant pays tribute to Bangkok’s traditional cookshops, bringing together Hainanese and Teochew cooking styles with a modern twist. Read more
