A Beautiful Rooftop Bar at Indigo Hotel

Char Rooftop Bar is a small spot perched on the 27th floor of the Indigo Hotel in Bangkok, above the tree-lined Wireless Road in Ploenchit and the massive garden of the American ambassador’s residence. The surroundings are unique, with many trees and green areas at the front and the modern and ever-growing city skyline beyond it.

Char rooftop is small, but the Indigo Hotel did an excellent job managing the space, creating several alcoves with infinity views that can accommodate 6 to 8 persons. On one side, they added a long working station where you can sit with your laptop and work while enjoying this great background with a glass of fine whisky, wine, cocktails or just a beer.

The prices are lower than at the other famous iconic Bangkok rooftops, such as Sky Bar or Vertigo, but Char has a cosy feel. The crew is always friendly and smiling, which adds to the great atmosphere, especially when you are lucky enough to get a beautiful sunset (that’s about half the time)

On several occasions, we ended up partying at Char until 2 am. After a couple of drinks, you will probably hang out there a little longer than you originally planned to. No worries, since you can also order tapas to take your party a little later in the night. Don’t miss the smoked beef tartare (260 baht) and the tuna tartare (280 baht).

Hotel Indigo on Wireless Road is one of our favourite places to stay in Bangkok when we want something central but with a bit more character. It’s part of the IHG group, so you get the usual comforts, but the design leans heavily into Bangkok nostalgia — think vintage radios, classic prints, and quirky local touches throughout. The rooms are bright and stylish, many with balconies looking out over Wireless Road or the city skyline. It’s an easy walk to the Ploenchit BTS station, which makes it convenient for getting around.
