Royal Thai Cuisine on the Chao Phraya Riverside
Chakrabongse Dining occupies one of the most unique and historic settings by the riverside of Bangkok. Built in 1908 by Prince Chakrabongse as a riverside retreat, the villa overlooks Wat Arun and the Chao Phraya River, creating an unmatched backdrop for a romantic dinner. Today, the property operates as a boutique hotel and restaurant under the care of Narisa Chakrabongse, the prince’s granddaughter.
The Dining Experience
Only two tables occupy the riverside terrace at any time, ensuring an intimate atmosphere. The restaurant serves a fixed set menu that changes daily, featuring authentic royal Thai cuisine prepared by the kitchen team. No à la carte options exist; this approach guarantees quality and allows the chef to select the finest ingredients each day. Diners enjoy dishes such as grilled marinated prawns with lemongrass, crab meat curry with betel leaves, and deep-fried sea bass with chilli sauce.
Atmosphere and Views
Dinner unfolds on terraces overlooking the Temple of Dawn and the river, particularly stunning at sunset when golden light illuminates the water. The setting feels peaceful and removed from the city’s chaos despite being in central Bangkok, within walking distance of the Grand Palace and major temples.
