Sanctuary Bangkok: Rooftop Bar at InterContinental Sukhumvit
Sanctuary Bangkok is a rooftop bar that opened in March 2025 on the 34th floor of the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit. It’s smaller than many other rooftops in the city, and it doesn’t have the wide panoramic views that some visitors might expect. But it has its own appeal.

There’s no direct view of the sunset because a neighbouring tower blocks most of it, but we were lucky to catch a colourful sky at dusk. The atmosphere was relaxed and easy-going, with a polished feel that fits the hotel.
Small Space, Interesting Design

The main feature is a large curved wooden roof arching above the bar area. Not something you often see on Bangkok rooftops. The design looks inspired by traditional Thai architecture but done in a modern, minimalist way. Warm lighting and wooden details give it a cosy feel, which contrasts with the urban setting around it.

Despite the floor space taken up by two big bar counters, the seating area is quite limited. This isn’t a bar you can just walk into on a weekend evening and expect a table. Booking is strongly recommended. The staff are polite and welcoming.
Original Cocktails with Thai Twists
The cocktail menu is creative and uses unusual Thai-inspired ingredients. We tried two drinks that stood out:
**Giant Water Bug** – Made with Water Bug Gin, Somsa (a Thai citrus fruit), and St Germain. The name catches attention, and surprisingly, it’s easy to drink and well-balanced.
**Luk Chup** – A rich mix of White Rum, Spiced Rum, Frangelico, coconut, and mung bean paste. Inspired by the colourful Thai dessert of the same name. Fun and unexpectedly smooth.

These cocktails were created with Tei, a mixologist from Tei by O’bond in Taipei, and they reflect a more experimental approach. They also have all the usual classic cocktails you’d expect from a luxury rooftop.
Prices are high, as you’d expect from a rooftop at a five-star hotel. But the quality of ingredients and the originality of the menu help justify it.
A Place for Pre-Dinner Drinks
The food menu is small, just five plates, all priced high. Sanctuary isn’t trying to compete with restaurants. It’s more of a spot for a pre-dinner drink, or a nightcap if you’ve already eaten. Being in Asoke, there are plenty of restaurants nearby, including good Thai food and international options within walking distance.

One thing worth noting: Sanctuary directly faces Tichuca Rooftop Bar across the way.
