A Michelin Guide Restaurant in Chinatown
Nai Ek Roll Noodle (เธฃเนเธฒเธเธเธฒเธขเนเธญเธ เธเนเธงเธขเธเธฑเนเธเธเนเธณเนเธช) is a small but very popular restaurant on Yaowarat Road, in the heart of Bangkokโs Chinatown. It started as a simple food cart in the 1960s and moved into a permanent shop in 1989. Since then, it has become one of the busiest places to eat, attracting locals and tourists. The restaurant received the Michelin Bib Gourmand award in 2018 and 2019.
Their signature dish is Guay Jub (เธเนเธงเธขเธเธฑเนเธ), a rolled rice noodle soup served in a clear broth. The soup has a strong white pepper flavour and a spicy aroma. It comes with crispy pork belly, sliced pork, pork offal, and a boiled egg. The rolled noodles are soft and chewy, and the crispy pork adds a good contrast in texture. The peppery broth is quite bold, so it may surprise people who are used to milder soups.
Even though the shop is small and often full, service is quick, and the queue moves fast. Most people come just for the guay jub, but other dishes are also popular. These include rice with crispy pork (เธเนเธฒเธงเธซเธกเธนเธเธฃเธญเธ) and rice with stewed pork ribs (เธเนเธฒเธงเธเธตเนเนเธเธฃเธเธซเธกเธนเธเธธเนเธ). Food is usually served within minutes, and the prices are very reasonable, between 80 and 120 baht.
Nai Ek is open every day from 8 am to midnight, making it a great stop at any time, especially during a food walk around Chinatown. The atmosphere is always lively, and seating is basic but clean. Youโll find the restaurant at 442 Yaowarat Road, next to Soi 9, marked by a big red sign and a crowd of hungry customers outside.
