NAAM 1608 Restaurant

A Riverside Thai Restaurant in Talad Noi

Naam 1608 is hard to find. It’s tucked between Song Wat Road and Talad Noi, along a narrow lane behind a Thai temple, right on the Chao Phraya River. You won’t find it by accident. We had to use Google Maps and still missed the turn twice.

We walked through a maze of tiny alleys and motorbike shortcuts before spotting a small wooden sign pointing to the river. From the outside, the building doesn’t look like a restaurant. It’s a restored two-storey wooden shophouse with old details and vintage furniture. Inside, it feels like visiting someone’s riverside home. Old family photos on the walls, ceiling fans spinning slowly, Thai music playing quietly.

The menu is short. Mostly classic Thai dishes with a homemade feel. We tried the Nam Prik Long Rua (chilli paste with crispy pork, served with vegetables), which was rich and slightly smoky. The Kaeng Som Pla (sour curry with fish) was tangy, with a strong southern-style kick. They also serve lemongrass tea and iced Thai coffee. Portions are not huge, but everything tasted fresh.

The main reason to come is the river. The back deck opens directly onto the water with a few small tables. It’s quiet, especially at sunset when longtail boats pass by and the light hits the water. Not many restaurants in Bangkok have this view without charging hotel prices.

What We Ordered

Good to Know

  • Naam 1608 is near the Holy Rosary Church in Talad Noi, about a 10-minute walk from Hua Lamphong MRT.
  • The restaurant is small and often full on weekends. Reservations are a good idea.
  • They don’t try to be trendy. Just good food in a quiet spot by the river.

There are many stylish riverside places in Bangkok now, but Naam 1608 keeps things simple. It’s not fancy, but it feels real. That’s why it’s worth the effort to find.
