A Great Thai Restaurant in Langsuan
Baan Langsuan is one of those places that’s easy to miss, but once you’ve been, it stays with you. Set inside a restored white wooden house on Langsuan Road, just a few minutes’ walk from Chit Lom BTS, it looks more like someone’s home than a restaurant—and that’s exactly the idea. The house is over 80 years old, and they kept the traditional Thai design: wide wooden stairs, shuttered windows, and a quiet front porch under the trees. Inside, it’s full of vintage furniture, colourful porcelain dishes, and old black-and-white family photos. It feels like visiting your grandmother’s house.
The couple behind it, Beer and Bobby, opened the place to serve dishes they grew up with—things their grandmothers used to make. The menu sticks to classic Thai comfort food, nothing fancy or modern. Breakfast includes things like khai kata (eggs pan-fried with Chinese sausage and minced pork), creamy omelette with sausage on rice, and toast with thick kaya pandan custard. Thai-style coffee comes in little metal mugs, and there’s a nice puang set with soft-boiled eggs and steamed toast.
Later in the day, they add a few more home-style dishes like green curry, massaman beef, and a very decent crab omelette. The portions are small enough to mix and match a couple of dishes, which is good because you’ll probably want to try more than one. It’s all familiar stuff if you grew up in Thailand, but still comforting even if you didn’t.
They open from 7 am to 9 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The space is small—just a handful of wooden tables across two rooms—so it fills up fast, especially on weekends and lunchtime. Still, it never feels loud or rushed. It’s the kind of place you go when you want to slow down a bit, have a quiet meal, and maybe remember a few things from the past.
