Asiatique The Riverfront

Asiatique The Riverfront is a large open-air night market and entertainment complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The site is built on the grounds of a former international trading port, and the old warehouse buildings have been converted into shops, restaurants, and performance venues.

The market is divided into several zones. The shopping area has over 1,500 stalls selling clothes, souvenirs, handicrafts, and Thai products. The dining section faces the river, with a long row of restaurants serving Thai and international food. A large Ferris wheel stands at the centre of the complex and offers views over the river and the city.

Getting there is part of the experience. A free shuttle boat runs from the Saphan Taksin BTS station to Asiatique’s pier every evening, giving you a short ride along the river as the city lights come on. The market opens in the late afternoon and runs until about 11 pm.

Asiatique is a popular evening activity for tourists and locals alike. It has more structure and polish than a traditional Thai market, but it is still a good place to browse and eat by the river. For the full guide, see Asiatique Bangkok.
