Spectrum Rooftop Bar on Sukhumvit
Spectrum Lounge is a rooftop bar built on 3 levels at the top of the Hyatt Regency Bangkok on Sukhumvit. The rooftop is vast and beautifully designed but doesn’t have a panoramic view of Bangkok. On each side of the rooftop are immense glass walls that somehow block the view, so the only remaining open space is the narrow front of the building. The best is to walk down the stairs and sit on the small terrace below. It’s small, but at least you can see the long stretch of the Sukhumvit BTS line.
There are several sitting areas, and the main one is located behind the bar, away from the edge of the rooftop, and therefore doesn’t offer any views. The fancy bed alcoves along each side are a bit better but must be booked in advance, so you probably won’t get these.
Be aware that the main rooftop is only open from Wednesday to Saturday, from 8 pm to 12 am, so the sky will already be dark and photo opportunities will be limited. (we took our photos when the upper rooftop was open to all at 5.30 pm)
Another higher floor, only accessible via a glass elevator, is reserved for special events, but we were lucky enough to be invited to see it.
In case of rain, the indoor bar and lounge welcome you with pretty good live Jazz music and a cosy atmosphere.
The drinks and tapas are good, but the prices are high. Keep in mind that since prices don’t include the tax (++), your bill can escalate quickly.
