What to Do in Sathorn?
Sathorn is a central district in Bangkok that runs from the edge of Lumpini Park and the new One Bangkok lifestyle complex all the way to the Chao Phraya River. Itโs known for its tall office buildings, luxury hotels, embassies, and rooftop bars, but the area also has a more local side. Along the main Sathorn Road and the smaller streets around it, visitors will find a mix of stylish rooftop bars, hidden cafรฉs, excellent restaurants, and small local food stalls that come to life during the lunch rush. The area is busy during the day but becomes more relaxed in the evening.
The district is easy to reach by BTS or MRT, and itโs well connected to Silom, Sukhumvit, and the riverside. Sathorn is a good mix of modern Bangkok with some unexpected surprises, whether youโre passing through or staying in one of the many hotels nearby. Sathorn is home to some of Bangkokโs most stylish rooftop bars, offering great city views without the heavy crowds found in the more touristy areas. The atmosphere here feels more grown-up and relaxed. Bars like Vertigo, Mahanakhon Skywalk, and Le Du Kaan combine skyline views with well-made drinks and a more local crowd. Many of these rooftops are perfect for a sunset with a drink after dinner, with music that stays in the background.

Vertigo Rooftop and Moon Bar
Vertigo Rooftop and Moon Bar are among the best rooftops in Bangkok, on the 61st floor of the famous Banyan Tree Hotel on Sathorn Road, a tall, skinny-looking building. Vertigo is a restaurant where you can have dinner with some pretty amazing views, but most people like to hang out in the comfortable chairs and sofas of the bar for a sunset drink and some unforgettable photos.
WHERE TO EAT IN SATHORN?
Sathorn offers diverse dining from budget street food stalls serving authentic Thai dishes under 100 Baht to Michelin-starred establishments like Jโaime by Jean-Michel Lorain. The area features spectacular rooftop venues, including Vertigo on the 61st floor and Ledu Kaan, providing panoramic Bangkok views. Local markets around Suan Plu Road offer traditional Thai food, while the business district atmosphere has international cuisines and upscale dining.
Sรผhring
Sรผhring is a superb restaurant serving modern German cuisine and is probably one of Bangkokโs most talked-about places. The restaurant hides in a tiny street off Sathorn Road and seems to be cocooned in an overgrown green garden. You will surely need Google Maps to find it. The house is very attractive, designed on several levels with large windows and a beautiful veranda in the garden.
Issaya Siamese Club
Tucked away in Bangkokโs Sathorn neighbourhood, Issaya Siamese Club is the stunning brainchild of superstar Chef Ian Kittichai. This isnโt your average Thai restaurant; itโs a culinary playground set inside a beautifully restored, almost century-old Thai-colonial mansion.
Blue Elephant Bangkok
Blue Elephant Bangkok is one of those restaurants we like to recommend when friends visit the city and want to experience Thai food in a more refined setting. We have been there a couple of times, and each visit was memorable for the right reasons. The restaurant is easy to spot, sitting in a beautiful old mansion on Sathorn Road, right across from the Surasak BTS station. The building itself is a piece of Bangkok history, and stepping inside always feels special.
WHERE TO STAY IN SATHORN?
Sathorn has all kinds of hotels, from big luxury names to smaller, more local places. Some of the most well-known are Banyan Tree, W Bangkok, and Eastin Grand, each with its own style and often a rooftop bar to go with it. Many are just a short walk from the BTS or MRT, so getting around is easy. Itโs a popular area for business travellers, but also good for anyone who wants a quieter base without being too far from the action. A few small hotels and serviced apartments are hidden in the side streets if you look around.
