A Creative Rooftop Bar Above CentralWorld

Sato San is a rooftop bar on the 32nd floor of Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong, right opposite CentralWorld in the Siam District of Bangkok. The concept is simple and clever: Thai-Isaan flavours meet Japanese style, in both the food and the drinks. The name says it all. Sato is a traditional rice wine from Isaan, made from fermented sticky rice. San is the Japanese honorific you add to a name. Mix the two, and you get the whole idea of the place.

The design by DWP won an honourable mention at the International Architecture & Design Awards 2026, and one look at the bamboo sculptures glowing red on the terrace tells you why. I had a reservation, which I would really recommend, especially around sunset.

A Fun Wait on the 9th Floor

I got there a bit early, so I waited at the Moxy reception on the 9th floor. That turned out to be a nice surprise on its own. The hotel is built for a younger crowd, and the lobby shows it. The reception desk looks like one of those old cinema boards where they used to slot in the movie titles letter by letter.

Moxy Bangkok DJ

A DJ was playing cool music at the right level, not too loud. I walked around, looked at the details, and the time passed quickly. It really sets the mood before you even go up. A separate lift then takes you straight to the 32nd floor.

The Rooftop and Its Bamboo Sculptures

The first thing that hits you up there are the giant bamboo sculptures lit from inside in orange and red. They look like exploding stars or sea urchins, and they make the whole place feel different from any other rooftop in Bangkok. The design is playful, not stiff. The team behind it is DWP, the same studio behind a lot of big hotel projects in Asia.

Seating is split between low sofas with bright Thai cushions and a long counter facing the city. The counter is the better choice if you want the view. From there, you look straight down on CentralWorld, with Central Plaza Ratchaprasong on one side and the Baiyoke tower further away. On a clear evening, I could even spot the Golden Mount in the distance.

Food and Drinks at Sato San

The menu plays on the same Thai-Japanese mix as the name. Sushi rolls come with Thai twists, like a salmon roll topped with a spicy nam jim style sauce. There are also small plates mixing both kitchens.

The drinks list is where the fun really starts. Cocktails are built around sato, often served in tiki ceramic cups. I tried the Sato Sato Original, a canned version of the rice wine, light, slightly sparkling, around 5% alcohol. It makes a nice change from the usual gin or whisky. Fresh coconuts branded with the Sato San logo are on the menu, too, if you want something soft. Prices are a bit high but fair for a rooftop in this area.

Friendly Team and a Welcoming Indoor Area

Sato San Rooftop Bar Bangkok

The team at Sato San really made the evening. Everyone spoke perfect English and was happy to explain the menu. Later on the wind picked up and the rain started rolling in over the city. Everyone moved indoors, and the staff handled it without any fuss. The indoor lounge is just as nice, with the same bamboo theme and warm lighting.

On the way out, the whole team made a point of saying goodbye and thanking us. A small thing, but it really stuck with me.
