Tasana Nakorn Terrace is a riverside bar and restaurant area on the upper floor of IconSiam in Thonburi, Bangkok. It sits on the open-air sixth-floor terrace, the highest outdoor level facing the water. It’s popular for its panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River and the landmarks across the water, including the historic Old Customs House, which is being restored into a luxury hotel.
The terrace is semi-outdoor, with a mix of shaded seating and tables right along the railing. I think of it as the easiest river view in this part of Bangkok, with no hotel dress code and no minimum spend.

The View From the Terrace

The setting is the main reason to come, and it’s at its best around sunset. From up here you look straight across the river to the old riverside district, with boats, ferries and dinner cruises passing below. The light on the water in the early evening is hard to beat.
After dark, IconSiam runs its multimedia water fountain show on the river in front of the building. The terrace gives you a clear view of it from above, which you don’t get from street level. Time a drink for the show and you get the river, the lights and the music all at once.

Bars and Restaurants on the Terrace

Tasana Nakorn is more of a terrace than a single restaurant, and a few different places share the space. House of Beers (HOBS) is the best known, with a long list of Thai and imported beers and a menu that runs from sausages and grilled meat to Italian dishes and seafood. Fallabella River Front sits along the same terrace and leans towards Thai-Italian food with the same river view.
Between them you can put together anything from a quick beer to a full dinner. For most people the drinks and the view are the point, so I usually keep the food simple and order something easy to share.

What to Know Before You Go

Bangkok has plenty of rooftop bars, but most of the famous ones sit on top of hotels and come with high prices and a smart dress code. Tasana Nakorn is far more relaxed and a lot cheaper, which makes it an easy stop after shopping rather than a special night out.
Getting here is simple. The Gold Line stops at Charoen Nakhon station right next to the mall, and free shuttle boats cross from Sathorn pier near Saphan Taksin BTS. If you want a table right on the railing for sunset or the fountain show, it’s worth booking ahead. On a normal day you can usually walk up and find a table after a wander around IconSiam.
Opinions about the food and service vary, so I’d keep expectations moderate and treat it as a drinks-and-view spot. On that basis, it’s one of the more memorable places to sit at IconSiam.
