Phuket Palazzo is the last kind of Cabaret Show you expect to find in the backfields of Patong Beach. This unusual dinner show is performed by an eclectic troop of Russian acrobats, Chinese contortionists, black athletes and Thai dancers. Palazzo tries hard with some success to bring some glitter to a remote area, it takes a bit of time to get used to so much red velvet, mirrors and chandeliers in this brasserie set in a mid century art-deco circus.
On a good side, the acrobats and performers were really good and since we never had a chance to witness this closely until this day, we were genuinely impressed. The Chinese performer balancing several spinning umbrellas on her toes was really jaw dropping. Seeing very closely a Russian contortionist bending her body backward is something we never thought was possible. Of course, it’s one thing to watch it on TV, but it’s a totally different experience to see a pretty girl putting her feet on her own head…
The three black guys were accomplished equilibrists, balancing on top of a very high pile of chairs with such natural; we even thought it looked easy. Think twice. On the not so good side, the comedians reminding a lot of clowns had hard time to keep the audience entertained. It lacked of natural, but it’s probably tough to be convincing when repeating the same exact show every day of the week for quite a small audience.
Food had also some good and some not so good. Putting things in perspective, we were paying for a show plus a four course dinner, so all together it was a good evening. The menu consisted of Smoked salmon in rice pastry rolls, Gong Sarong basket (prawns), Duck leg in 5 Chinese sauce, and a Mango mousse. The seating is divided in four areas. VIP tables near the stage are 3,200 Baht, Parter seats are 2,500 Baht and lodge seats all around are 2,200 Baht. Drinks are not included. Show starts at 7 pm everyday.
