A small night market in Phuket Town
Kor Jaan (Lahd Kor Jaan in Thai) is a new night market set along a canal on Kra Road, in a lesser-known part of east Phuket Town. With such a hidden location, Kor Jaan market seems to address more to locals than tourists, but as always, everyone is welcome to visit. This is actually your chance to experience some real local food, including those fried insects that never fail to become a tourist attraction and an unforgettable selfie to take back home.
What to eat and buy
You can choose to buy some local food and eat it as you walk around, or sit at one of the super tiny tables set in the middle of the street while listening to some local singer’s performance. The choice is surprisingly attractive and the entire market is surprisingly well prepared for COVID-19, all shops have a protective screen and everyone wears a mask plus a transparent face shield. And even with these unusual conditions, vendors are very friendly and the overall atmosphere is relaxed.
Restaurants along the canal
If you feel like eating more seriously, sit at one of the many small restaurants along the street, such as Ple Beer Woon. The food is good and cheap, and they are also famous for their ‘Beer Woon’, a frozen way to serve the beer to turn it into a Slurpee. It’s fun and good, especially in hot weather, but it never fails to horrify tourists.

Except on the night of the market, the restaurants set up their tables under the trees along the canal. The canal is not particularly beautiful but the waterside seems to always add a relaxing touch to any dinner. It really feels like a local experience you could add to your Phuket Town visit, but you have to be a little open mind
