The Most Iconic Go Go Bar in Phuket
Suzy Wong’s is an icon of Soi Bangla nightlife and one of the few names in Patong that has stayed in the same spot for over thirty years. The current facade with its bright red Chinese decoration and massive wooden door is hard to miss, even though Suzy’s sits at the very end of Soi Seadragon. The bar charges no entry fee and posts drink prices on a board outside.

This was one of the first go-go bars I visited in Phuket back in 1994. It is still mostly the same today: small, casual, and built around a tiny elevated stage in the middle of the room. The fun has not changed either.
Inside Suzy Wong’s
Once inside, the Chinese theme fades into the background. The waitresses wear silk dresses, a few masks and swords hang on the walls, and red lights wash over everything, which makes photography a real challenge.
The layout is exactly what I remember from my first visits. Sofas line the walls, stools sit around the central stage, and the dancers are never more than a couple of metres from the customers. Nothing is hidden, nothing feels distant. This is part of why Suzy’s still works after all these years.
The Famous Spanking Game
The twist at Suzy’s is the spanking. Yes, you read it right. Once inside, you will get spanked by pretty ladies wearing very little, usually with a soft paddle that makes a loud whacking sound but no real impact.
Past the first shock, most customers realise it is painless and surprisingly fun, mostly because you can fight back. Everyone in the bar joins in. Couples laugh, groups of friends take turns, and the whole room becomes part of the show. It is like a permanent pillow fight, only louder.
The Stage Shows and the Music
The girls at Suzy’s are among the most attractive in Patong. Every now and then, a special routine takes over the stage, sometimes a solo dance, sometimes a show involving two or more dancers. Nothing is forced, and nothing pushes too hard.
The music is one of the reasons I keep coming back. The DJ knows exactly when to lift the energy and when to pull it back, with a mix of dance hits, classic chart tracks, and the kind of songs that get the whole room moving at once. A lot of go-go bars get the music wrong. Suzy gets it right.
The crowd is more mixed than people expect. Couples come to have a look, groups of friends drop in for a drink, and travellers who have heard about Suzy’s add it to their Patong checklist. The mood stays light all night.
Where is Suzy Wong’s?
Suzy Wong’s is at the very end of Soi Seadragon, which runs off Soi Bangla in Patong Beach. Walk to the end of the soi and you will see the red facade on your left.
Useful tip: don’t hesitate to walk in. There is no cover charge, and drinks are at the usual Soi Seadragon price, written outside and on the menus.
I would not order mixed drinks like vodka tonic or whiskey coke at any go-go bar in Patong. Stick to beer or a single spirit on the rocks if you want to taste the alcohol.
Suzy Wong’s Through the Years
Suzy Wong’s has been at this corner of Soi Seadragon for as long as I can remember, and the spanking gimmick was already its trademark when I first walked in during my first weeks in Phuket in 1994.
The facade has been rebuilt a few times. The most recent version, with the red lacquer and the heavy door, replaced an older and simpler entrance. Inside, the changes have been small. Better lighting, a slightly tidier bar, a sharper sound system, but the same compact layout, the same central stage, and the same energy.
Suzy’s now has two sister bars on the same soi, Devil’s Playground (Suzy Wong’s 2) and Suzy Wong’s 3, but the original is still the one most regulars come back to.
Verdict
Without a doubt, Suzy Wong’s is still the best go-go bar in Phuket. It is small compared to Harem Lounge and Suzy Wong’s 3, but the atmosphere is unique, the team is full of energy, and the experience is unforgettable. After thirty years of visits, I still walk in with a smile.
Important Note about Touts:
Touts are not working for the bars. Never follow a tout in the street with his little card or whatever he says you will see in the show. It’s often not real, and you will be charged extra. Just walk away. The bars are easy to find on Soi Seadragon; you really can’t miss them.
